Slim Thug, born Stayve Jerome Thomas, is not only a well known rapper but a businessman and consistent contributor to his community. Various food and toy drives, as well as many other efforts to benefit the less fortunate is what ultimately led the former Mayor of Houston, Ms. Annise Parker, to proclaim February 25, 2014 as "Slim Thug" day.
Two years later, February 25, 2016, Slim celebrated the two year anniversary of his proclamation in true "Boss" fashion. Slim Thug's construction company "Boss Life Construction" and local restaurant "Burns BBQ" partnered together to build affordable homes in Houston's North side community, Acres Homes.
Acres Homes has been described as being synonymous with "urban blight", with properties is this area being abandoned or classified as shotgun houses. There are rental units that appear to have absentee landlords and many acres of land are empty because Real Estate developers that are capable of building in this area may not necessarily view the projects as profitable.
However, being a savvy businessman, Slim used this as an opportunity to simultaneously redevelop his community, provide housing for low income families and create a business opportunity by utilizing his construction company.
